Topics covered will include their discovery and excavation, the buildings that have survived, and what these sites tell us about the daily lives of the people that lived in them. 1. Herculaneum and Oplontis Write Like An Egyptian Beverley Rogers £35 Saturday 4th February The fascinating language of Ancient Hieroglyphs will be explored in this one day seminar. There will be an overview of the different types of Egyptian Writing, a look at the basic style of the language, learning the hieroglyphic alphabet, examining the concept of the language, touching on basic grammar and finally we will have a go at deciphering some hieroglyphic texts. God and Philosophy Lewis Evans £35 Saturday 10th March Can there be rational grounds for believing in God? Philosophers over the centuries have given various arguments to prove God's existence. In this day School, we will examine these closely, taking account of classical critics as well as some of the "New Atheists" (such as Dawkins et al). Book here
